Client Services
Client Services is part of the Data Center and Client Services department of Information and Educational Technology (IET) and includes the following units that provide technical support, consulting, and other IT services to faculty, staff, and students at UC Davis:
IT Express is the campus's central computing services help desk, offering technical support and consulting services to UC Davis students, staff, and faculty. The help desk provides support for the latest Windows and Macintosh operating systems, email clients, Web browsers, various software and campus applications, the campus data and voice networks, and a number of other products and services. IT Express also provides Email Postmaster services to the campus, including support for the central campus email system, campus computing accounts, and electronic mail lists.
Desktop Enterprise Solutions (DES) provides computer and network consulting services to UC Davis departments and students on a recharge basis. Services for students include troubleshooting; virus and malware detection and removal; software installation, configuration, patching, and maintenance; data recovery, and technical consulting. Services for departments include Windows and Macintosh system and server administration, Active Directory, adjunct technical support staffing, desktop/laptop support, cyber-safety consulting, and firewall administration.
The Software License Coordination (SLC) unit negotiates and manages agreements for select software packages for the benefit of the campus. A variety of widely-used products may be purchased at a discounted price or downloaded for free from the software Web site.
The Technology Support Program (TSP) acts as a liaison between IET and departmental computer support personnel – also known as Technology Support Coordinators (TSCs). The TSP provides a way for IET and the campus technical community to interact with one another, share knowledge and experience, and announce new developments within IET, UC Davis, and the greater field of technology. To facilitate collaboration within the campus technical community, TSP offers bimonthly meetings, dedicated discussion and announcement lists, and special opportunities for the members.
